Plainly stated
Privacy Policy
Come to Korea is an informational website. We try to collect as little about you as possible, and never sell anything we do collect. This page explains exactly what we keep and why.
What we collect
We collect only what is necessary to operate the site, understand whether our content is useful, and serve relevant ads:
- Aggregate visit data via Google Analytics — pages viewed, country, device type, referrer. This is only collected if you accept analytics cookies. It is anonymous; we cannot identify you personally from it.
- Advertising data via Google AdSense — when you visit the site, the AdSense script loads in your browser. Google may use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this site and other sites on the internet. We do not directly receive or store this data; it is collected and processed by Google. See Google's advertising policies for details, and you can opt out of personalized advertising at Google Ads Settings.
- Your email address — only if you choose to subscribe to our newsletter. We use it for nothing else.
- Standard server logs — IP address, browser, and request time, kept briefly by our hosting provider (Vercel) for security and abuse prevention.
What we do not collect
- We do not require an account to read anything on the site.
- We do not sell or rent your personal data to anyone.
- We do not run affiliate links or referral tracking.
Note: Google AdSense and Google Analytics do use cookies that may recognize you across other sites in their networks. We do not have access to this cross-site data, but it is technically collected by Google. The two opt-out links above apply.
Cookies
We use three categories of cookies:
- Essential — remembers your theme preference (light/dark) and whether you've dismissed the newsletter popup. No personal data, never shared.
- Analytics — Google Analytics cookies, only set if you click "Accept" on the cookie banner. You can change your mind anytime by clearing your browser's site data.
- Advertising — Google AdSense and its partner networks may set cookies to serve and measure ads, including personalized ads based on your prior browsing on this and other sites. You can opt out of personalized advertising at Google Ads Settings or via the EDAA / Your Online Choices industry tool.
Newsletter
If you subscribe via the newsletter popup, your email address is stored by our newsletter provider for the sole purpose of sending you occasional updates about Korea-related changes. Every email includes a one-click unsubscribe. We do not send promotional content from third parties.
Outbound links
Most of the site is links to government and service websites in Korea. We have no control over what those sites do with your data once you click through. Read their own privacy policies.
Your rights
Under GDPR (if you are in the EU/UK), Korea's PIPA, and similar laws elsewhere, you can ask us to:
- Tell you what data we hold about you (effectively just your email if you subscribed).
- Delete it.
- Stop processing it.
Email us at support@cometokorea.org for any of these.
Changes to this policy
If we change anything material, we will update the "last reviewed" date below and, where possible, notify newsletter subscribers.
